Playing three weeks in a row makes Mr. Woods a pretty locked in golfer, and he’s showing it today. Tiger played a bogey free round of golf today, shooting a 67 and missing three or four makeable putts that could’ve made that number even lower.
It’s over.
Tiger missed only two fairways, played the par-5s in three-under, and generally looked about as solid as a guy can look on a course that played 7,674 yards in a fairly menacing wind.
Padraig Harrington looked good on the course today, going nearly stroke for stroke with Tiger, before failing to get up and down on the Par-5 7th hole from a tricky greenside bunker. That said, you’ve got to think that it’s almost safe to start engraving T. Woods into the Wanamaker Trophy, as he hasn’t shot in red numbers to open a major in quite some time, and played only his third bogey-free first round in a major championship.
